Thanksgiving Visit

Thanksgiving was a bit different for us this year.  Due to the unplanned trip we made in October, we spent our first Thanksgiving here instead of visiting family in Tennessee.  The good news was that Kim’s parents came down to see us.  (more…)

My Election (and Other) Thoughts

I just finished watching an outstanding ESPN Thursday night college football game!  No. 15 Rutgers came back from a 25-7 deficit to no. 3 Louisville by scoring 21 straight points and shutting down the no. 2 ranked offense in the country.  This is the first ranked team that Rutgers has beaten since 1988.  They had never beaten a team in the top 15.  This was the first time that a ranked Rutgers team played a ranked opponent at home.  Rutgers was the doormat of college football, but now they are 9-0!  Their coach, Greg Schiano is fantastic.  I heard that their boosters are trying to put together a 22 million dollar, 10 year contract; I really hope they get to keep him — they deserve a winner who is worth it!

Too bad this wasn’t the case on Tuesday.  I personally believe that the vote was more of a protest against the Bush Administration (never tell me people don’t vote about ONE issue!!) than a vote FOR the Democrats.  (more…)

Unlocking The Mystery of Life’s Origin

Time for a short one … David Finch (minister to the Chinese at SBRCC, for those who don’t know) loaned me a DVD called Unlocking the Mystery of Life’s Origin  recently, and I finally got around to watching it.  Boy, was it ever worth it!!  During the movie, there is an animation sequence in which the manufacture (yes, that is the correct word!) of a protein inside a cell is shown.  This is exactly the kind of thing that really evokes worship from me.  I was astounded yet again at the wonder of God’s wisdom.  It is beyond comprehension what the thoughts of God are, that he would put together this kind of machinery (again, a correct word) at such a small scale.  I am simply amazed!

It turns out that IllustraMedia has other videos that they have made that I am planning to acquire (in addition to the above): The Privileged Planet (I saw this one on TV one day and it was fantastic), The Case for the Creator (by Lee Strobel — just bought the book), and Where Does the Evidence Lead? (haven’t heard of this one).  I will probably acquire all four.  What a great investment!
